Out and about in New Braunfels

On Halloween, thanks to our gracious local hosts, we got to see some great local sites.

We started with a visit to the Natural Bridge Caverns, a nearby site with underground caves and other education and adventure activities.

The tour we took was into the deeper cavern, 18 stories of stairs down (and later back up!). We learned all about the discovery and exploration of the caves as well as all the different spectacular formations. At the lowest point of the cavern we had a few minutes of complete darkness, a cool experience where your mind and eyes start to play tricks on you.

For lunch we went to local town Gruene, first visiting the oldest dance hall, venue for bands and used in a number of movies. Lunch was at the Gruene River Grill, a great old building near the river (which we learned you float down in a tubes when warmer).
